What I am about to say right how is very familiar to most of you…

We are travelling over very familiar territory right now….

And here is a sad fact of human nature. this is absolutely an effect of the fall…

“we get familiar with things”

In fact we get overly familiar with things”

so we get “used to things”

And as we get overly used to things they lose their “effect on us”

Now the apostle Paul dose not want us to get “used to the gospel” God all mighty dose not want us to get “overly familiar with the gospel”He doesn’t want it to lose its effect on us. God is battling this tragic effect of the fall “this getting used to things” by reminding us that “at one time we were cut off from God” that “we were his enemy, doing evil deeds and he could not even look at us

Colossians 1:22

And we need to pause now after those 3 glorious words

those words are glorious because what they say is that
“God is the one moving here!”
“God is the one acting”
“God is the one taking initiative”

Paul does not say

“and then you!!!”

Think about this:
“the one most offended by our sin takes the initiative”
takes the initiative to do what???

Lets look at the verse “to reconcile.” He takes the initiative to reconcile YOU and ME to him self. God took the initiative to make peace with his enemies, He brought his enemies to him self, those he at one time could not even look at, He gathers to Him self. So the next obvious question becomes:

“How??? How in the world can that happen?”

“How is that possible?”

“How can the holy righteous God of the universe gather sinners like us to him self?”
Lets read on…

Colossians 1:22 He has now reconciled you in his body of flesh, by His death…

God sent his only son

in to the world as a man

so that He could die

to pay the penalty

for the sins of his people

I was listening to this text in an audio sermon jam from 1031sermonjams  this afternoon, and it strikes me harder and harder every time that I listen to it. so I typed it out for all to enjoy.

For us who are saved, we must always make sure that the main thing stays the main thing…

Colossians 1:20-22 Through him he also reconciled all things to himself, whether things on earth or things in heaven, thus making peace through the blood of his cross. You who were once alienated and hostile in mind, doing evil deeds, he has now reconciled by the death of his physical body so that he might present you holy, blameless, and without fault before him.

    I wrote something similar once.
    This is a good reminder!
    Thank you,

  2. evangelismcoach says:

I love this verse. The word “Now” means a whole lot to me, including how we who were not once “his people” are “now” his people (from Hosea).

    What words of deep joy.

yes thankyou guys for the feedback

I enjoyed it so much also, my only wish is that I could write like that!

but it has shown me that out of scripture
“God sent his only son in to the world as a man so that He could die to pay the penalty for the sins of his people”
can pack so much, be so deep and so rewarding!

I know I just need to read slower, read deeper, with reflection upon what is really being said.
