Just had a conversation with a guy from the Philippines on my skype. I jumped to the topic of his religious background and he quickly informed me that he didn’t think that Jesus was God – oops. Warning bells! (In addition to the warning bells that he was an unknown skyper!)
Well I had a bit of a discussion with him and he gave me permission to post our conversation on this blog. You might find this conversation fascinating or absolutely boring. If your response is the latter please excuse me from posting this and move on to something on our blog or the www – there are plenty more things out there more interesting. (Also – just a disclaimer; I have left all the dodgy spelling intact. The Philippino guy was all over the show so I thought that it was only fair to leave my rapid typying spelling mistakes intact.)

Yeah, I haven’t got an email from him yet. I sort of feel that he was after some kind of friendship with me to gain himself a financial outcome; but I am not certain of this. I was just surprised that he just chopped of the conversation.
well alot was covered in that small chat.
I did see some common English/Filipino communications happerning there.
due to english not being his first language he missed some of the important details that you said to him.
this can also be seen in his jumping to the next topic. because he didnt fully grasp the whole sentence, but rather just a few key words.
and Daniel was using alot of English “sayings” like (In down time, whole passage, grave error, show of good faith) things like that always kill a English sentence with a non English speaker!

I would assume that he thinks that the word “gospel” means “book/bible/word’s of God”
we must remember that he has been born in to a society that has a very big line drawn down the center. muslim and christian. there are only two sides in the philippines.
not that there is a physical war going on there now days, but you are born in to a side and you label your self the same as everyone around you.
there are Muslims on one side, that blends in to the secular muslim/secular christian middle, that merges in to christian “catholic” majority then all the christian cults, with a few solid born again christians on the far side.
no doubt that he was born in to a family that calls its self Christian and maybe he even goes to church (not necessarily catholic)
he seems to have some level of bible knowledge, but the most telling thing has to be his “clear statment” Jesus is not God.
it was so “up front and clear” on that point that he must have been told that by some group or denomination.

My thoughts are that he is a Jehovah Witness? He was just so strong on that point about Jesus being just a messenger.
